Che Bella Casacalenda!

As you may have gathered from the episode before last of The Jason Show, Casacalenda is by far my favorite part of Italy.  Its quaint, old-world charm is breathtaking and spellbinding.  Four hours southeast of Rome, 45 minutes from the Adriatic coast, it was built in the 1200s.   The part of town that Giancarlo's parents live in is called Terra Vecchia, which means "the old land."  Their home is a small part of was once the duke's palace, but at some point in time, still hundreds of years ago,  it was subdivided and given to families of the town. I had a marvelous time capturing moments and glimpses of years gone by.    If you look closely, you can almost see the shadows of those earlier inhabitants.

Buonasera, Casacalenda.

Oh good heavens - I'm glad that you were able to make this trip! It's so important to immerse yourself and your children in Giancarlo's culture and family history. And what a beautiful place! I love how the staircases and alleys sort of sag in a gentle way, as if they are honoring all of the footsteps that have trod them. Simply beautiful!
