For those of you who don't live in the greater Los Angeles area, this is what it looks like when a television series is filmed in the house across the street from you.
Trucks, dumpsters, portable dressing rooms, catering supplies, lights, cameras, action, and (if you're lucky) stars line the streets.
Signs are placed along the street ahead of time to warn residents of the upcoming shooting.
And neighbors (like me, AKA Mrs. Kravitz) try to look nonchalant as they slyly snap photographs of the cast and crew. I'm pretty sure the girl standing in the gray track suit holding the white bag is Katie Leclerc.
The name of this TV series is Switched at Birth, starring Leah Thompson, and airs on ABC Family. I've been recording it on my DVR, but I haven't really watched it. I just fast forward through it in hopes of seeing my street and my neighbors house. The story takes place in Kansas City.

You may recall the last time a show was filmed on my street. It was a "reality" show that takes place in Louisiana. Yep. This isn't Louisiana.

I hope we get to see a piece of your house. How great would that be?
So cool and fun!!!
How cool is that??
When we have shootings in my neighborhood, they are actual shootings.
You should ask if they need a sassy gay neighbor as a walk-on part.
m.
Would you believe that even though I live in a small insignificant town in south texas that I have been in a movie with Jackie Chan and also in one with Goldie Hawn? I was a toddler in Sugarland Express (Goldie) and a teenager in The Big Brawl (Chan). Both were filmed in my town. A Johnny Cash movie was filmed here, too - don't think I was in that one. If I was, it wasn't intentional :).
I so be hitting up the catering table. What? I bet they good fruit and donuts. :)
That is WAY cool!
Hope we get to see you, walking down the street! I mean, I know it isn't likely, but come on - YOU should star in that show! You could be like, Mr. Roper, or Larry, or the neighbor across the street on Bewitched! :)
That's kind of cool. You definitely should walk by and be an extra in the show.
That would be fun! I'd be glued to the upper story window with zoom lens in hand....I would!
That would be so exciting to come home to every day.
Jason, you are practically famous! Well, you are blog famous already...but you know what I mean!
And, if you're really lucky they pay you being inconvenienced and invite you to come eat for free a the corndog truck. :)
Omg I am a little embarrassed to admit Switched at Birth is my favorite show right now! It has sucked me in, even though I am fairly certain the target audience is high schoolers. I just love all the actors/actresses and the story line is pretty interesting. I have never been one with discriminating taste when it comes to tv shows but holy cow, how exciting!!
Something about filming is always exciting! Here in Massachusetts we've had a good share of location shoots. Now and again we'll see similar...always exciting.
Ha! Mark's comment just above indicates he's another Masshole. Mall Cop was filmed at "our mall" and it was funny to have all the Christmas decorations up in the summer. (I was actually just proud they used my awesome mall).
Can't believe you didn't call me so we could acidentally be on a show!!!
Where I work, we are always renting out our parking lot to location shoots for base camp. We always get invited to the catering tent!
I'm not at ALL embarrassed to admit that I'm in LOVE with Switched at Birth! It's a great show. :) How cool they're filming in your neighborhood! Now I have to go watch it again and look for your house. ;)
