Remember this little guy?
He inspired me so much that I wrote a little poem about him a few weeks ago.
Well, he has grown. Thanks to my mother-in-law, he found a new home in a cozy clay pot and some potting soil right next to the sunny kitchen window. We have all watched him grow with pride in our hearts and a sense of wonder at the miracle that is nature, and grout.
We will let keep you posted as our preteen tomato plant goes through puberty and begins to produce fruit.

Producer's Note: For some reason, some of the regular viewers of The Jason Show are doubting that this is true. We promise that this is really true.

Aww, they grow up so fast, don't they?
Is this for real, or a joke (like the restaurant)? If it's real, that amazing!
Wow. That is like, an agnostic miracle!
Karen took the words right out of my mouth. I can't believe ANYTHING from you anymore! ;-)
This is so funny in an "I know what you mean" way. I once had a mushroom growing in my hall bathroom. Really, a mushroom on the floor between the grout and the tub where it is always dark and moist.
Guess it doesn't say much for my housekeeping skills..
OK, I'll be on the believing side. I've seen plants grow in strange places.
It's weird, but that just made my day.
Oh my goodness. The disclaimer made me laugh and laugh!
I'm a believer although I've never had plants sprout from grout indoors. I guess anything is possible. :)
"For some reason, some of the regular viewers of The Jason Show are doubting that this is true. "
Gosh, that's the most amazing thing I ever heard.
Why would anyone doubt you?
A paragon of truth and virtue and all....
Wow.
I may not be able to sleep tonight. I may lie awake and just.. .ponder this.
Wow.
Nature never ceases to amaze me at its will to survive...
No frickin' way! I still don't believe you even after your note...I can't even grow a plant bought from a nursery, how are you growing a plant plucked from the grout in your kitchen? How did you grow a plant in your grout?
Haha! I love it!
I fear this is next: http://www.imdb.com/media/rm2447744256/tt0080391
OMG that's amazing. So glad your mother-in-law potted it. Keep us posted.
You could start a side business in grout sprouts.
That is hilarious!!!
In a few weeks...you'd better move him to a big pot and give him a 'cage' too.
So funny! But I don't think the poor little thing will grow plants. I believe you need two tomato plants because one needs to fertilize the other. You know, the whole birds and bees thing. Ben could probably get you another plant from the sewer plant.
How could anyone doubt that this is true? I mean, it's not like you just pretended to open up a real restaraunt when it was really a virtual one or anything....
What's that fable about the 'boy' calling wolf?!
This little guy was Elsa's pride and joy for so long. I wonder when she is going to call and ask about the plant. Or has she and I just don't know about it yet?
The disclaimer is very true. This is the same plant that grew from the grout. I think that he is about ready to move into one of the pots that I brought downstairs just over 24 hours ago. No joke.
How did you manage to extract that little seedling and keep it alive? Wow. And a tomato plant to boot. Those are going to be some of the best tasting homegrowns ever!
I think you have us all a little bit skeptical. Although, if you say it's true, I'll believe you! Gullible me! But really, I believe you! That is an amazing plant. Who knew that something that could happen. I can't wait to see it bare fruit!
I'm so proud of your little plant. I have a whole Flickr set of plants growing in inhospitable places -

Really? I know you like to lie, Jason. See what happens when you cry wolf . . . now no one believes you. Silly Jason.
Life is a beautiful thing. Grout life.
Grout...it's what's for dinner.
WHAT is not believable about this? It's only awesome.
Amazing.
They say, actually that tomato seeds survive almost anything. We used to have a tomato plant growing outside the back door of a theatre I worked in. Apparently the caterers for a special event had dumped some leftover salad there, and it sprouted.
Other gardeners I know have transplanted tomato seedlings that sprout in their compost pile - even the heat of the compost didn't kill them.
Take good care of your little guy!
