Today is Ricky's Day

There are some who criticize those who do not "come out of the closet" in what might be considered to be a timely manner.  I am not one of those individuals.  People need to deal with this kind of thing on their own terms.  Everyone has different circumstances and backgrounds to consider, so from The Jason Show to Ricky, welcome!  We're proud to have you as our guest star in this episode.

"I am proud to say that I am a fortunate homosexual man.  I am very blessed to be who I am."

"What will happen from now on?  It doesn't matter.  I can only focus on what's happening to me in this moment.  The word "happiness" takes on a new meaning for me today.  It has been a very intense process."

"Every word that I write in this letter is born out of love, acceptance, detachment, and real contentment.  Writing this is a solid step towards my inner peace and a vital part of my evolution."

"These years in silence and reflection made me stronger and reminded me that acceptance has to come from within and that t his kind of truth gives me the power to conquer emotions I didn't even know existed."

"Today is my day, this is my time, and this is my moment."

Well that was a lovely reflective piece he wrote, but I thought we knew this a long time ago. I'm really surprised to find he wasn't out.

He should be very proud to be a guest here!

I didn't know. Seems like lots of people assumed. I didn't know, and frankly, I just want to babysit for him, because those babies? Oy. I want to carry them around in my purse they're so cute.

I am not really equipped with gaydar... a couple of my family members came out within the past few years, surprising the hell out of me.

But Ricky? Even *I* knew.

Not that it matters.
I hope his choice to come out will not be something he regrets.

I knew he was gay...he is just waaaay to good looking to be straight! I am glad he finally came *out* to the press. At least he can now live honestly and hopefully in peace.

You know what I really love? Both Ricky Martin and Clay Aiken came out because they felt it was important to live authentically and honestly and proudly for their children. Those babies changed lives in such a positive way- and those babies will grow up in a more honest and real environment because of those very brave choices.

I like how you say everyone has to do what is right for them. He had his reasons for remaining silent and now he has his reasons for his announcement. I wish the best for him and his family.

I honestly didn't know that he hadn't come out! Good for him and those babies are adorable!

Everyone is all like, "Oh I so totally knew. I mean, duhhhhh".

Um, I didn't. Sure it's not a shocker but it's not like I thought about it that much! To me, all stars are off limits for sexin me up anyway. ;)

My older daughter actually posted his coming out on her Facebook page; she was so happy for him. When my kids were all little we adored him and spent crazy family moments dancing to his music. I still adore him, and was glad my daughter did that. We just assumed he was gay and, um, that never made him any less hot. He seemed sad for a long time in interviews, so I'm happy he looks to be in a good place.

That's great! Happy for him.

Also, happy that my childhood dream of marrying him (which began when he was a member of Menudo) was never realized. :)

Thinking more highly of him than I did before. And gay or straight, hot is hot.

You are right, it isn't wise to criticize those who do not come out in a "timely" manner...we each have our own THINGS to work through.

And those babies?! Totally squishy!

Well, I knew back in the 90s that he was gay. I'm just sorry that he didn't feel safe enough to publically acknowledge it until now. How sad that he's had to live with his "secret" all this time. It's amazing how much strength and courage one finds when they become a parent. Good for you, Ricky!

We loves us some Ricky at our house. He was my daughter's first concert when she was young enough to drag a stuffed animal to our hotel that weekend. I'm glad he's finally put this to rest...on his terms.

I gotta admit that is one fabulous looking man! Although it's probably not PC to say this, but I always thought he WAS homosexual...

Either way, I support his decision and will still oogle him. Because it's my RIGHT as an AMERICAN....

What?

Welcome to the gay dad with twins club Rick.

I am so happy for him!

Katrine said...

The only reason you wrote about Ricky is because you are hoping one more person will say, "Oh Mr. Show, you look like Ricky Martin!"

I'm lovin' me some Ricky now. I don't think people should be forced out of the closet. I'm happy for him and hope it frees him.
