Release and Replace

Last year instead of making New Year's resolutions, I chose a focus word to guide me, as I stated in this post:

"I've seen this idea of having a focus word for the year rather than New Year's resolutions in different places in my blog travels, but the first place I saw it was, that's right---The Zen in You. Caroline referenced a blog written by singer Christine Kane
.
I chose the word RELEASE.
.
I have come to realize that there are certain things in my mind that I need to let go of in order to move forward in my own personal, psychological, emotional, and spiritual development. These things are getting in the way. I have pinpointed some of them and still want to figure out what the others are.
.
Throughout the year as those things pop up in my mind that take me to a negative place, it is my goal to RELEASE them because they're taking up my energy and time, keeping me pinned to the endless wheel in motion that is needless negative thought."
.
The past couple of weeks I have been mulling over which new word to choose for this year.  Ironically, I've been experiencing some of the same negative feelings during this time that prompted me to choose the word "release" in the first place.  Most of them have to do with a particular home issue, which shall not be named, that kicks my butt over and over and over again.  (Many loyal viewers will know exactly what I'm talking about.  I'm so transparent.)

Rather than stick with just the same word, I have decided to add one word to it.  That word is replace.

Release and replace.

This year I will release those negative, counter-productive thoughts, and replace them with positive ones.

Last year, release honestly helped me get through many situations in a more positive way.  I'm hoping that replace will take me to the next level.

I give you permission to remind me about this as the year goes by.  Unless of course it interferes with my blog mojo, in which case you better keep your trap shut.

Wow. Love it. My word the past few months has been 'strength,' but I am sensing the time may come for a new one soon.

Love it, Jason. Our thoughts have a habit of becoming reality.

I needed to see that today, as I've clearly let a work situation drag me down all day and into the evening. I need to release and replace. *I'm trying*...

I love it Jason. I remember when you picked the word release...and now adding the word replace. What a great idea! I've picked my word for 2010 and fully intended on writing about it a week ago but a shit sandwich got in the way. Soon though. :) Thanks for reminding me that it's not too late! :) XX Lori

I may practice cognitive psychology, but there is a fine line between replacing negative thinking and falling ridiculously overboard into Norman Vincent Peale-ishness. In other words, don't lose your blog mojo!

Good idea! Or you can be conniving and sneaky and just a pain in the ass like me. That makes me feel good sometimes too. :)

Good word! Releasing can be healing and calming.

Interesting concept, but I have trouble understanding how you would implement the process. I,too, get bogged down over certain things that take me to a negative place and my mind just won't release the thoughts. They just keep bugging me. So please tell me how you get your mind to stop and change subjects when it doesn't want to stop.

This is such a wonderful idea. I can see how using one word while meditating or even when taking some deep breaths can be beneficial!

I, like Jenn, am going to use the word Strive! There is much I would like to accomplish this year.

Sending you blessings as you work on your release and replace. I think my motto this year is "Own your stuff", good, bad, or indifferent. I'm owning it AND I am not Owning other people's crapola.

You crack me up, none of us will be able to keep our traps shut if we feel the urge to bug you about this post. It is our serious duty to help you on your journey. Smile. Good for you that you are working on letting go of negative and replacing with positive.

I think those are great words.

I'm reminded of an episode of Different World that Debbie Allen guest starred in... "Relax, Relate, Release!" A friend and I quote and mimic it frequently!

Release. One word. That's fabulous. I'm the dumbass that keeps trying to get the knot out of the shoelace for days, tearing, ripping, using a safety pin, crying, pulling my hair out... just buy some new shoelaces. I mean, its what's gonna happen anyways, right?

I do believe I know what you're talking about, but I won't mention it since you didn't. I just want things to get better for all of you!

I think "replace" is a great word to add. You can do it, J!

I'm going to totally blog-rob you and make this my new mantra for the year. What a positive and inspiring frame of mind. Release and replace. Brilliant, you are, Mr. Show.

I think that should be my mantra, too--release and replace, release and replace, release and replace.

I have some issues going on too, that really don't have to be what they are. I know that the way I think or feel about them makes them worse than they have to be. I am going to try to release these thoughts and feelings from my brain and heart, and replace them with positive ones. At least that is what she said.

"Release and replace" Could sound kinda dirty in the wrong hands.

Oooh Jason Love that. Release and Replace. What a good idea to pick a word for the year. A good thing to follow Release and Replace with, would be Rejoice! I love that word. Rejoice is such a happy word, don't you think? How can you not be happy when saying "Rejoice!". As you release the negative energy, Replace it with positive thoughts, and Rejoice in your newfound peace! :)

I love your blog, so much! :)

Oh, golly. Unfortunately, for me it seems that "releasing negative and counter productive thoughts" often means releasing them through the mouth - saying them. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

Only Hula Hank.

I never keep my trap shut.
And...I'll think my word this year will be "renew".
Now, can Hula Hank make that dirty too???

I love this. I am pretty good at letting go of the things that are bothering me but too often there's just a big gaping void waiting for the problem to return or waiting to fill up with something new to be bothered by..

Replace is definitely a step in the right direction!

JCK said...

I love the replacing. The releasing isn't easy, but the replacing can be tough, too. You inspire me, Jason.

Great choice, Jason! I still haven't settled on my word for 2010...but soon.
