Pushing open the doors to the nursery, we saw one little dark-haired baby bundled up tightly, frowning against the bright lights of the world, and we knew he belonged to us. Over the course of the next two days, we sat in a family visiting room and gazed at this infant boy wondering who he was, and how the stars all lined up correctly to make him so suddenly ours..
When the day arrived for us to take our little Dieguito home, hospital policy required him to ride down to the car in a wheelchair. He couldn't exactly ride in the chair by himself, so I got to sit in it to hold him.
.
As we rode, Giancarlo, Amelia and I chuckled at the surprised looks we got from other hospital patrons, and I marveled at the maturity and selflessness on one young woman's behalf that put me in that wheelchair with that amazing new tiny person.

That picture is awesome. Dieguito is right where God wanted him to be.
sniff! Isn't (wasn't) it weird to sit in the waiting room for night time feedings instead of in an actual patient room? That felt strange to me, although I don't know why I didn't realize I obviously wouldn't have a room for my baby because I wasn't a patient.
"Intrepid" is the word that always comes to my mind when I think of the immense selflessness and courage it takes a birth mom to choose adoption for her child. What a lucky little boy to have such great dads. And lucky dads, too!!
I do love a happy ending!
Wow! Look how young Amelia is! Time flies!
Awwwww.
Ha! I would have loved to have seen the wheelchair ride and the looks it garnered. Too funny. I left you a little award at my blog. Check it out.
That's a sweet picture. Thanks for the great story!
What a lovely story and a great picture.
:)
I LOVE this....great add on with the wheelchair. :)
Have a great weekend....Happy MOTHER'S Day!!
I love your story and your wonderful family, but I still would have done a double-take if I had been one of the people who saw you in that wheelchair! I would just have been thinking, "why is he in the wheelchair?" That is a strange hospital policy. I know they made me ride out in a wheelchair, but I thought the policy was about the mom (having just been through, well, what she just went through), not about the baby. Guess I was wrong!
yeah who do we wish happy mother's day too? both of you? if that's the case that isn't fair because that means you get mothers and farther day. I always get ripped off. CONGRATS, Diego has been a great addition to the family, and i always look forward to pictures and funny stories of him.
He is such an adorable kid...love his face in the, "Diego Demands To Know" section :)
From his baby pic, he looks like my Pooper (all of my children looked "latin" with lots of dark hair at birth)
As for the "clown car" reference on my blog, (tee hee hee)...Im like you, it had me in hysterics, even before I knew what it meant....
as it's been explained to me, a popular "clown trick" at the circus, is to see how many clowns you can pile into a little car...kinda like, how many people can you fit into a phone booth (which is much more familiar to me)...so, get it? it's a vagina, not a clown car....LOL. ok, night ;)
How wonderful! Too funny about the wheelchair! Dieguito is incredible!
Now look at him. He's a licking, dancing, clam eating big boy!!
And a lucky one, too.
Awwww! I LOVE IT!!!
Happy Mother's Day, Jason! I'm thinking you'll be celebrating Father's day,too. ;)
This was such a wonderful story.
I recognize that hospital! All 3 of my children were born there! You look so incredibly happy! Great picture!
Nice to see parents who are all welled up and excited to take the baby home, because I was still in shock. It hadn't hit me yet that I was RESPONSIBLE for the little nubbin. It took a few days.
Lovely story!
